The Journey Weekend Away 2007

The other Friday night of the first ever Journey weekend away swing into life even though it was pouring down with rain! Undeterred 28 members of The Journey and a large team of leaders and helpers embarked in cars and a mini bus for the enormous eight mile trek to Chidham!

After a night spend in a surprisingly warm decommissioned navy mine sweeper, we awoke to find the sun shining. Loads of challenges and much laughter lay in wait for us. There were the clever morning challenges arranged by Lisa. There was a photo challenge, assault course, archery and team challenges in the day time followed by many impromptu inside games and meal time challenges involving hair gel and even dog biscuits!

The whole weekend was carried along by continuous games of ‘sole-murder, a game where you have a name and you have to touch the sole of that person’s foot to get them out, until there are two left to find out who’s champion.

But, most of all it was carried by an enormous sense of fun and God being in all that happened. Saturday evening we were joined by Jim Elliot and thankfully, Ellie who managed to raise herself from her sick bed. Jim lead us in a great time of worshipping God with many of the young people going deeper in their faith in Jesus and being encouraged by the truth of the grace and forgiveness of God.

Despite the heavy rain, Tim was able to make fire out of wet wood and we finished the evening with a bonfire where we roasted marshmallows and waffles and were supplied with copious amounts of hot chocolate. A massive thank you to all who helped out at the weekend who haven’t been mentioned; Anna, Shelly, Derek, Sarah and Ben. Also a massive thank you to Jill Frampton and Aaron Frith who stepped in at the last minute to help with lifts.
