Have you ever got lost or had that sickly feeling of not quite knowing where you are supposed to be going. Not a nice feeling is it?
As a church we really want to be clear about where we are going and not wander around like headless chickens. This applies to the big picture and the small.
We feel to succeed it's really important for all of us to understand where we are going and to be committed to moving in the same direction. Each one of our members has a unique contribution to make in our journey.
We have summed our vision up in a very simple statement and five values:
Our Vision
Sharing Jesus Christ with all people. Seeking Gods kingdom in all of life.
Our Values
People. Passion. Growth. Generosity. Fun
Our Values are inspired by Jesus. They are the values we want to build our lives and our community around. They are the fingerprints of Jesus we want to leave on everything around us.
People
Origin: Old French poeple, from Latin populus ‘populace’. human beings in general or considered collectively, the mass of citizens; the populace, one’s relatives, the members of a particular nation, community, or ethnic group. |
We want our relationships and friendships to honest, real and loving. We want to value people by being welcoming, open and being focussed outwards, by getting to know others and allowing ourselves to be known. We want Jesus’ incarnational love to be lived out in our lives and in our actions. We want to demonstrate God’s incredible love, passion and justice for all people.
Passion
Origin: Latin, from pati ‘suffer’. very strong emotion, an outburst of very strong emotion, an intense enthusiasm for something, (the Passion) the suffering and death of Jesus.
We want our passion to be more than skin deep, more than just a good feeling or a bright idea. We can be passionate extroverts or passionate introverts! We want to be passionately wholehearted, life-giving, faithful. We want God’s passion for people and for justice to motivate how we live and act. We want to be passionate when it’s hard to be, by keeping faithful and prayerful when life is gritty and hard and by being extravagant worshippers in all seasons.
Growth
Origin: Old English, related to GRASS and GREEN. the process of growing, something that has grown or is growing.
Growing is a sign of life….anything that stops growing has already died. We want to keep our relationships with God alive, fresh and active. We want to be life long disciples who are ready to be shaped and changed in Jesus. We want to breathe life into the dreams and purposes God has given us, keep pioneering, and keep giving God freedom in our lives. We want to see every individual grow in their love of God and in their confidence in him.
Generosity
Origin: from Latin generosus ‘noble, magnanimous freely giving more than is necessary or expected, kind towards others, larger or more plentiful than is usual.
We want to have a generosity of heart and in spirit in our words, our time, our homes and our wallets! Giving to others where there is need and in often unexpected ways. We want to learn to push into God’s generosity to us and share it with others. We want to give freely and with joy and show hospitality often to people we don’t know as well as people we do.
Fun
Origin: from obsolete fun to cheat or hoax, of unknown origin. light-hearted pleasure or amusement, playfulness or good humour, informal enjoyable.
We want our faith to spill out into the whole of life. We want to enjoy and celebrate our life together and the journey we are on together as a church. We want to seek the best in God’s purposes for us and the best in each other. To life full lives with a sense of adventure, freedom to be ourselves and fun and smiles along the way.
