The Watoto Choir Visit 2009
Last week saw the quiet amazing Watoto Children's choir from Uganda make their 3rd visit to Chichester hosted by Revs and Chichester Family Church. The arrived fresh from the last few days with our good friends at Arun Community Church. The choir performed to over 1,000 people in Chichester in under two and a half days!
Their visit kicked off with a bang as the choir performed in Fishbourne Primary School to over 230 children and staff. Next up was an evening concert of Hope hosted at the Venue. The amazing concert saw over 300 people pile through the doors to come and see the 18 inspirational young children sing and share their stories of Hope.
Day 2 saw a visit into Slindon College with an assmebly to the who school and staff team. This was a new opportunity into a school that Revs have not been into before. The afternoon saw the second concert of Hope at the earlier time of 4.30pm for younger families which saw a further 250 plus guests come through the Venue. The two concerts at the Venue raised an amazing total of just short of £3,000 for the work of Watoto.
Day three was an assembly in Oakwood school to over one hundred children and staff. It also provided one of my favorite moments of the visit with a mass game of football between Uganda and England on the Oakwood playing field. Uganda won 6-1!
As ever we want to say a big 'Thank You' to the host familes from Revs. The Ross's, Evans, Framptons, Kings, Fosters, Pearces and Ellie Armstrongs. Thanks for being generous in your hospitality of our friends from Africa.
