Welcome To The Race of 2008

Welcome to 2008 with the rest of the New Year laid out in front of us. Mr Brown, our Prime Minster thinks that this year will be the most decisive of the decade! What does 2008 hold for you?

The biggest race of the year is undoubtedly the one to the White House to take up the role as the leader of the most powerful nation on the earth. It is a fascinating race lining up, knowing that there will defiantly be a newly elected president in early November as George W Bush final term in office comes to an end.

The race to become the 44th president of the USA is now well and truly underway. This could result in the US electing its first female president in Hilary Clinton or its first black president in Barack Obama; we make even see the oldest person to be elected to office in John McCain aged 71yrs. The front runners at this time are Clinton and Obama leading the way for the Democrats and Giuliani and Huckabee heading the poles for the Republicans. There is still a long way to go in the next 10 months but someone will cross the line as the winner on the 4th November 2008 wining the prize of presidency.

The fast moving, post modern world we all live in often delivers many pressures to us like the need to be a success, to achieve something significant and to win. I often end up with the feeling sucked into a race in our society win.

The bible as ever has some great advice for us on how to live in 2008. It tells us to run the race that is marked out for us and that we are not running a race in vein. We run towards the prize which is an eternal reward in Jesus Christ. The prize will not rust or decay or be spent in a few weeks or months. Remember the race you are marked out for and the prize that awaits all who run. If you are reading this as someone who would not describe themselves as a Christian and want to find out more about what Christians really believe may I suggest the Alpha Course.
